Welcome to the Beginning Judo Website
Mission Statement and Introduction
Beginning Judo is dedicated to being a resource for the new and returning Judoka. If you are new to the sport of Judo, welcome. Also, if you have been out for awhile, welcome back. And if you are a dedicated Judoka, I hope this site will be a useful resource for you as well.
For Beginners
If you are new to the sport of Judo, welcome. This time, the beginning of your journey if you will, is going to be eye opening. There is an old saying, “A journey of 1000 miles starts with the first steps”. These first steps are your foundation that you will be building upon, much like any path you pursue in life. Also, thanks to your new enthusiasm, this is also the time that you will be eager to learn. Go with it. Beginning Judo will do what we can to help.
For Those Returning
If you have been out for awhile, welcome back. I’m sure there’s some ring rust on you currently. However, with some help from your fellow Judoka, that’s going to get knocked off soon, figuratively as well as literally. Things may have changed since you left, but much is still the same. My hope is to help you get back up to speed, and help keep you informed.
For the Experienced Judoka
For those of you who are dedicated Judoka, I hope this site will be a useful resource for you as well. Much of what I write about is going to be foundational in its nature. It never hurts to look at the things you already know with a fresh set of eyes though. No one is immune to an “Ah-ha” moment. We all have our times when we may know how to do something, but don’t know how to explain it. Or perhaps there has been a minor issue you’re trying to overcome, and need a new way to approach it. Hopefully this site will be able to help you in those aspects.
What I Hope To Accomplish
The information that is shared here is designed to be disseminated in such a way as to be informative as well as instructional. Most importantly, I do what I can to explain things as simply as possible. Albert Einstein is quoted as saying, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough”. By writing these posts, I am doing what I can to help you, the reader gain a better understanding of the sport of Judo. I also in turn help myself by recognizing what it is I do know and am able to share. Not only that, by writing these posts, it shows me what I do not know, and it helps me to improve. Then, I can use this new information to help myself as I help others on their journey.
Final Thoughts
I will write about specific training, drilling and other skills occasionally. However, the learning of these skills are best practiced on the mat. When it comes to your training, your Sensei and yourself are the two most important people you should listen to. I would like to think of this site as a place you can go to for additional information. For example, if you can’t seem to wrap your head around a particular subject, I’ll do what I can to assist. Maybe you have a question you keep forgetting to ask in class because you’re too busy trying to improve. Hopefully, you’ll be able to find the answer here.
